Stock screener, stock-research app or brokerage: which job do you need done?
A screener narrows candidates, a research app helps investigate them, and a brokerage handles investment accounts and orders. You may not need separate products for every job.
The categories overlap. Many brokers provide screeners and financial data. Research platforms can offer discovery, ratings, watchlists and portfolio tools. Check how much of your work one product can handle before adding another subscription.

Use a screener when you can describe the candidates
A screener applies conditions to a defined universe. You might look for companies with rising revenue, positive operating profit and a particular market capitalisation. The results depend on data dates, definitions and how missing values are treated.
Finviz, TIKR, Stock Rover and other providers offer screening alongside additional research functions, so you can find unfamiliar businesses and investigate them in the same product.
A result tells you that the provider's data met the selected conditions. It does not explain whether acquired sales drove the growth, whether earnings include an unusual gain or whether the company has a funding problem. Those questions belong in the next research step.
Use a research app when the next question is about the company
Research apps organise information in different ways. Some emphasise financial tables; others articles, visual reports or changes over time. A good fit helps you understand a business and locate the reason behind a number.
Helmbeam is our stock-research app. Begin with a ticker mentioned online or find a candidate in Discover, then open the company view and Numbers to examine its reported information. Our five lenses help you ask questions about price, business, shareholders, earnings and resilience. Follow the company if you want to return.
You can use our app for that candidate search and follow-up. If you need a particular custom screen, financial-data function or spreadsheet export, check its availability and plan access separately.
Use a brokerage for execution and account records
A brokerage is where eligible customers place orders and hold investments under the relevant account arrangements. Order execution, fees, custody, statements and tax records are different jobs from researching a company's prospects.
Check the actual broker, jurisdiction, account type and protections. A research app's attractive explanation does not establish that a particular trade is suitable, and a broker making a security available does not mean it endorses the investment.
We do not provide brokerage services. Following a company in Helmbeam does not record a holding or execute an order.
Follow one example through the three jobs
Suppose a manufacturer passes a revenue-growth screen. You open the accounts and discover that receivables grew much faster than sales. You then read the notes to investigate shipment timing, payment terms and collectability.
The screen found the company; reading its accounts gave you a collection question to investigate. You might read further, wait for another disclosure or stop if the company no longer interests you.
Only if you independently decide to invest does the brokerage task begin. At that point, the order type, position size, portfolio concentration and transaction costs matter alongside the company analysis. The post-purchase guide covers checking records and preserving the research baseline afterward.
Avoid buying overlapping tools without a reason
List the tasks your current tools cannot complete. If you already have satisfactory screening and financial history, another subscription needs a clearer justification than more features.
Try one company and one question before paying. Can you find the right reporting period? Explain a change? Check the source? Return to the company later? Compare the result with the website guide or mobile-app guide.
A platform's rating, signal or setup is another input to examine. Ask what it measures and what it omits. No label removes the uncertainty of investing.

Do I need both a screener and a stock-research app?
Only if they solve different needs for you. Many products overlap. Start with the task your current setup cannot complete and test whether another tool improves it.
Does a screener result or app signal mean I should buy?
No. It reflects a set of conditions or a model. Investigate the company, valuation, risks and fit with your circumstances before making your own decision.
Can I trade through Helmbeam?
No. We provide research and analysis, not brokerage services. Discovering or following a company in Helmbeam does not place an order or establish that you own its shares.
