Best stock-research websites: tools compared by the job you need done
SEC EDGAR gives you the original disclosure. A screener narrows the companies to investigate. Financial-analysis tools help you work through their accounts. These eight stock-research tools serve different purposes; the right one depends on where your research gets stuck.
If you already have several tabs open for the same ticker, write down what you still need to find. That missing piece is a better guide to your next subscription than a feature list.
We reviewed the providers' public product information on 19 September 2026; we have not tested their paid subscriptions. We make Helmbeam, which is included below. Check current prices, coverage and plan limits before subscribing.

1. SEC EDGAR: verify the original disclosure
EDGAR helps you answer: “What did the company actually say?” Search the legal company name, select the relevant filing and inspect its date and supporting documents. This is useful when a headline leaves out the terms of a deal or the definition of a number. You still need to interpret what the disclosure means for the business.
2. Finviz: narrow a large universe
Finviz's screener turns a broad idea into a filtered list of stocks. Check each filter's definition and data timing before investigating the matches. Passing those filters leaves the company's business and risks to research.
3. TradingView: inspect the market picture
TradingView offers charts, screening and alerts. It fits a question about the shape and timing of a market move. Set the correct exchange and interval first. A chart can show that a move happened; it cannot, by itself, establish the business reason or the next move.
4. TIKR: investigate company fundamentals
TIKR has company financials, valuation information and tools for examining a longer operating record. Check the period, currency and definition of each metric. Resolve important discrepancies against the underlying report, and confirm that the service covers the companies and history you need.
5. Koyfin: put a company beside a wider market
Koyfin combines market data, financial analysis and watchlists in one workspace. When comparing companies, check that their businesses and reporting periods are comparable. Putting them on the same screen does not resolve those differences.
6. Stock Analysis: make a straightforward company lookup
Stock Analysis provides company financial tables and screening tools. You can start with the reported numbers, then look up the definition of any unfamiliar ratio. Accounting differences still matter when comparing the tables.
7. Qualtrim: explore financial trends and valuation assumptions
Qualtrim advertises interactive financial charts, including revenue and free cash flow, and a discounted cash flow (DCF) calculator with configurable assumptions. Use the operating record to examine those assumptions. Check the chart's period and definition, then see how changing an assumption affects the valuation. The output remains a scenario.
8. Helmbeam: discover, examine and revisit
Helmbeam supports a discovery and reassessment workflow: find a company, examine what is changing and keep a reason to return. Search a name you know or start in Discover, then use its company view and Numbers to examine revenue, earnings, cash flow and financial position. The five-lens guide explains the questions behind that research approach.
Follow a company that interests you to keep it on your research shortlist. Sentinel's setup-state alerts can prompt you to revisit it when the setup changes. Feature access depends on your plan; Helmbeam is a research tool, not a brokerage.
Try one task before choosing another subscription
Pick a company you recognise. Find its latest annual report, identify where revenue comes from and record one unanswered question. Repeat that task in the tools you are considering. Which makes the sources clearest? Which makes it easiest to return to your question?
If your real need is to narrow candidates, continue with five fundamental screeners. If it is to revisit names, compare watchlist tools. You do not need every tool in this list to build a useful process.
Choose a website for the part of research you actually do
| Your immediate job | A useful starting point | What to verify before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Read a primary disclosure | SEC EDGAR and issuer investor relations | Correct entity, filing date and attachments |
| Create a filtered candidate list | Finviz or another fundamental screener | Universe, definitions, saved screens and export limits |
| Compare financial history | TIKR, Stock Analysis or Qualtrim | Periods, normalisation, available history and sources |
| Put a company in market context | Koyfin or TradingView | Instrument coverage, data timing and plan access |
| Discover a company and return as it develops | Helmbeam | Covered company, Numbers access and follow workflow |
“Best” here means a documented fit for a task, not a measured league table. Providers overlap: a screener can also offer company accounts, and a financial-data platform can help discover ideas. Buying one service does not automatically require buying the others. For specific trade-offs, see TIKR versus Stock Rover, free research tools and mobile research apps.

Do I need several stock-research subscriptions?
Not necessarily. Start with the task you cannot currently complete. Test that task before adding another subscription; the eight tools here serve different purposes.
How should I compare two research tools?
Use the same company and question in both. Find the latest annual report, identify how the business earns revenue and check how easily you can return to an unanswered question. Compare the task you completed, not the number of features advertised.
Does appearing in a screener make a stock worth buying?
No. A screener match means the company met selected filters. It leaves the underlying business, financial definitions and risks to investigate.
