Finviz vs Stock Rover: screening and company research compared
Finviz is a strong candidate for screening US-listed stocks and scanning the market visually. Stock Rover is a stronger candidate to examine when detailed fundamental screening and portfolio analysis are central to your work. Both support discovery and research; the useful distinction is what you do after a screen produces names.

The practical differences
| Requirement | Finviz | Stock Rover |
|---|---|---|
| Find companies matching filters | Stock screener, including a free version | Detailed screening associated with paid plans |
| Scan a US market move | Charts, market maps and news | Market information alongside research tools |
| Investigate company fundamentals | Company data; Elite documents additional history and exports | Fundamental analysis, financial charting and tier-dependent reports |
| Analyse an existing portfolio | Do not assume equivalent portfolio analytics | Portfolio analysis is a documented part of the product |
| Research overseas listings | Documented stock coverage centres on NASDAQ, NYSE and AMEX | Detailed company research centres on North America |
Check the individual security rather than treating either coverage description as a list of everything included. Neither is the obvious default for detailed research across all global exchanges.
Compare a screen you can explain
Suppose you want profitable companies with growing revenue and manageable borrowing. Begin with the same universe and periods in both products. Record whether growth is historical or estimated and whether profitability means net income, operating income or an adjusted measure.
Then inspect three matches. A company may pass because of a one-off gain, a recent acquisition or an unusually favourable comparison year. The screener has done its filtering job even if further investigation makes you reject the company.
If two result lists differ, compare the definitions before judging the software. Missing values, update times and the treatment of negative denominators can change a result without either product being broken.
Price depends on the tier you need
Finviz Elite listed $39.50 monthly or $299.50 annually in US dollars. It documents real-time quotes, exports and alerts. Its trial requires a payment card and renews unless cancelled according to its terms.
Stock Rover's FAQ listed Premium at $34 monthly or $348 annually, with higher tiers costing more and adding capabilities or allowances. Its fourteen-day no-card trial has restrictions, including on CSV export and reports. Free access afterward should not be confused with continued access to every paid research tool.
The lowest headline price is not a useful comparison if it omits the feature you need. Compare the actual tier, billing commitment, taxes and renewal amount.
The portfolio question can decide it
If you already hold several companies, you may want to examine concentration and how their historical performance relates. Stock Rover's portfolio functions make it relevant to that task. That does not mean a simulation or historical correlation predicts future losses.
If you mainly scan for candidates and then read filings yourself, Finviz may supply enough of the workflow. Paying for broader portfolio analytics is unnecessary if you will not use them.

Is Finviz or Stock Rover better for free screening?
Finviz offers a free stock screener. Do not assume Stock Rover's paid screening remains available after its trial. Check current free-tier functionality before comparing the two as free products.
Which should I examine for portfolio analysis?
Stock Rover explicitly documents portfolio-analysis tools. Verify the required tier and the data inputs you need; company screening alone does not provide the same analysis.
Will using the same filters produce the same companies?
Not necessarily. Metric definitions, coverage, periods and data updates can differ. Investigate a few mismatches using original company disclosures.
